Being wiser is cramping my style

After today, I figure that I'm too 'wise' at the moment and that it's potentially going to cramp my style. Why?

badtooth

Yesterday I went to see the dentist. Just a regular check-up and cleaning but you know how some things are best left unknown till you really need to know about them? Yeah, it was one of those things. Apparently I'm one of those lucky unique people whose wisdom teeth decide to make a concerted appearance. That means all four of my wisdom teeth are slowly starting to stretch and grow and invade their molar neighbors space. Grrrr. It's gonna get awfully cramped inside my mouth when it happens. Thankfully, I haven't had it bad at all because I've only experienced a wee bit of soreness in my lower left gum on occasion, which as my dentist explained, was caused by my upper left wisdom tooth (which has a hole in it!) chomping down on the gum below each time I chewed. Oh, and the lower left wisdom tooth is slated to come out horizontally, pushing against the molar next to it (like the picture above - which is not my x-ray, btw). Double grrrr.

She (the dentist) merrily asked me if I wanted to extract my upper left wisdom tooth right there and then since it had a hole and was causing the gum soreness. I was like, "What?" You see, I've never had to extract any of my teeth before and while I have no fear of cleaning, scaling and drilling for fillings, the thought of yanking out my tooth is like, well, pulling the tusk from an elephant! So I said no lah (but have an appointment in two weeks' time to go pull my tooth out. Gives me time to prepare myself. LOL.). *makes face* Ya, and more news... the lower left wisdom tooth will require surgery in the future. Not right now since it hasn't made a full appearance yet, but when it does eventually, my dentist says I should have it removed so it doesn't push the rest of my teeth out of alignment (that means braces. Gawd!). *makes another face* Some more she had to go scare me by saying that surgery would take 1 1/2 hours and require me to have 3 days of MC! *pengsan*

Maybe prevention is better than cure and one part of me is glad I know these things before any pain sets in but the other (scaredy cat) part of me is admonishing myself for having gone for the check-up. (Cantonese saying: Chi kei loh lei sui! LOL.)

I had two of mine surgically removed once, many years ago, and all I could remember then was the smell of smoke!! Then another time, I had the other two removed, and all I could remember was how fast it took! I didn't even know it was over! No MC though! *sigh*

I can never understand why we need to grow wisdom teeth and NEVER get to use 'em...

Had one of mine surgically removed years ago. Bad experience. Prolly the technology wasn't quite here yet. Couldn't open my mouth for more than a week. But dun let me scare u la... nowadays, my frens tell me they hv no problems "opening" after the surgery :D

I hv one more lying inside the gums... every now and then, got sakit a bit bit... nope, not gonna take it out until it gives me MEGA PAIN...

my bottom two wisdom teeth grew out normally, but my top two... hilang! till today, they never grew out. maybe they're like yours that grow sideways, but tarak sakit wor. or maybe they were Harry Houdinis and just disappeared altogether... I hope it's the latter!

if you ever get them out, good luck - hope it won't take too long, and not too painful.

good luck with your wisdom tooth extraction.

Mine are still intact. KFC all the 4 wisdom teeth will remain that way and won't give me any further problems.

l b: Eeeeee! That's scary! It sounds like the Dark Ages of tooth surgery...

mistipurple: *fans the fainted misti* Yaloh... suddenly so many people go dentist... must be the time of year.

giddy tigress: How lucky! I never extract any teeth before worrr... scared la.

angel: Eeeep! *rinnah keeps her mouth closed* Thankfully the upcoming extraction is a straightforward jab 'n pull one and not a surgery. Heh. Yeah, just let sleeping teeth lie. LOL!

kyh: *piaks kyh for putting grisly images into my mind*

may: Aiyoh, why you all so lucky one? I've always hoped that my wisdom teeth never come out, but... no chance no loh.

chen: Wa, so trouble free ah? Up till today I've only had to have one really bad filling done so KFC my teeth won't give me more problems!

my wisdom tooth was also growing horizontally like yours and i had it removed before it starts to push other teeth, and i would suggest you do it too.

3 days mc? i only had 1!!! and i had to used a straw to 'drink' porridge after the surgery... the pain was there for 1 whole week. make sure u get a good dentist on this one.

zewt: Waaaaa... you're really scaring me now. Heh. Right now both my dentist and I are hoping that the tooth won't give that much problem so that it'll be an easier surgery for both of us in the future...

keeyit: *gulp* So expensive ah... but that was for minor surgery, hor? Thankfully next week it is a normal extraction only!
