What Google giveth, Google taketh away

ist2_464947_poor_baby_series_temper_tantrum

I'd read all over the blogosphere about the major bloodbath that Google unleashed upon the unsuspecting blogging world as they reinvented their famed PageRank algorithm. Blogs with previously high PR (PageRank for the uninitiated) saw their PR tumble faster than a tsunami wave or an avalanche from the snowy mountain tops. Naively, I thought I was safe because in the early stages of the blood-letting, I checked and rechecked and found that my blog(s) still had their PR intact. Very, very naive lor. If even the big names like 5xMom and John Chow can be affected, why wouldn't Google turn its eyes on my little blog(s)?

Then today, I read about
Wuching's wanting to hang himself because his blogs have dropped to PR0 which means your blog is like so insignificant you might as well 'close shop' for the sponsored opportunities because they all depend on Google's PR to determine whether or not you are 'worthy' enough to post for them. I got nervous. What about my blogs? Off I rushed to check at PRChecker.info. The bad news stared me right back in the face. 0/10. It couldn't be! I then hopped onto CheckPageRank.com. The answer was the same. 0/10. Noooooooooo!

No wonder I haven't been getting any good sponsored opps lately. And I thought it was because I wasn't seeing them at the right time.

I want my PR4 back! Bad bad Google!

I hug along too... Oh well, look at it this way.. It was too much of a good thing, and you know what happens to All Good Things, don't you? Yeah..

Don't worry.. In my Book (which doesn't pay), you rank Way Up Very High.. scant consolation, I know, but...

It's funny, that Google. It penalises sites which uses other text link ads, etc etc but allows splogs to keep their PR with their massive Adsense ads. It's such double standards.

Still, it was a bit of a silver lining for me. When my blog was on its Blogspot address, it was 3/10. When I bought my domain, it went back to 0, and stayed there for yonks. Same goes for my beauty blog. After Google did all this reshuffling, suddenly BOTH blogs shot to 3/10. But because I monetise my beauty blog with other ads instead of Adsense, it got thrown back to 2/10. Fickle, fickle ...

Anyways, I do agree with Mistipurple. These numbers aren't permanent; they skip around. Don't worry yourself over this. Next thing you know, voila, you're back to a 4 ;)

I'm sure the PR is not the only means of 'popularity' measurement... Don't they look at any other factors? I once read an entry written by a disgruntled PPP blogger - the PR is insignificant :p After hearing all these, I see that PR means 'money' to alot of people. Well hey, despite all that, I want to echo LB's 'scant consolation'... you rank somewhere at the top in my book too so... don't lah feel bad. I don't pay you $$ for your posts but I pay you visits (all the time)! :D *hugs*

angel: Thanks babe. *hugs*

l b: No, I don't know what happens to All Good Things. What does happen? Awwww.... thanks. You rank really high up in my Book too!

mistipurple: *sigh* I know. But to go from 4 to 0 is like... *feels heart drop with a thump onto the floor*

ehon: Yaloh. They got nothing better to do. *sticks tongue out at Google*

tine: Wow... you're the first one I hear whose blog PR went up in the midst of the reshuffle. Good for ya!

narrowband: Hehehe... I know Google's PR doesn't affect how you guys view my blog and my writing, but it's really quite trying for a PPP blogger. LOL! And you know I love all your visits, right? Right? *hugs*

jayce: Hello and welcome! Yup, my blog readers are way more important than any old Google PR...

doreen: Oh, ok. *cheers up and puts on a pretty smile for doreen*

Sigh, when I commented on your blog, I was a PR2. And now, it's back to zero. See, fickle fickle ... tsk tsk tsk.
