Victim of a snatch theft!

You know, I never thought this would happen to me but it did.

My mobile phone just got snatched right out of my hands when I was walking back to office from lunch. Luckily, I did not fall, nor get injured and the thief did not succeed in snatching my purse as well, which was carried in the same hand.

It all happened so quickly that I don't even know how it happened. One minute I was just walking and then the next thing I knew this Malay guy had snatched my phone out of my hand and took off. I screamed, of course, at the top of my lungs. "Hey! Come back here! He took my phone!" And I don't know what made me run after him (some more I was wearing a baju kurung) shouting and yelling. It certainly wasn't bravado. I just wasn't thinking of anything except to get my phone back. But of course, I couldn't catch him because he had an accomplice on a motorbike and he jumped on and took off.

I was so much in shock that I forgot to thank the kind gentlemen who tried in vain to help me stop that thief. One tried to grab the thief by the jacket and two tried to kick the motorcycle to make the thieves fall down. And the wonderful irony of it all? All three of them were Malay. I'm sorry I just walked off like that. I didn't know what else to do after the thieves zoomed off and I just wanted to get into the safety of the office building.

I've already called Maxis to suspend the line, and I'll probably take some time off to get my replacement sim card tomorrow. Unfortunately, all the contacts inside my phone are gone forever, because I didn't write them down and neither did I have the phonebook contact save feature activated with Maxis. So, to the people reading this, can you please email me your numbers again? Don't send me sms 'cos I can't receive it. Thanks.

*sobs* My baby Nokia N80! I mish you... I want you back... *bawls*

Edit @ 21:32 - I just noticed how apt my Verse of the Day (in my sidebar) is... it reads : “In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.” (Psalm 62:7)

Glad that u r safe. and u didn't lose ur purse. Imaging all the running around u had to do if u lost ur myKad, driving license, credit cards, atms, etc.

Do u mind me asking which area are u working at? Was it a secluded area or was this done rite in front of the lunch crowd or what? The thieves are so bold?

mudpie: It's the first experience for me... and it's not one I want to repeat! Yup, I'm glad I'm safe and sound...

l b: Hehe... I like how you put it. Shaken and stirred but still standing...

ehonchan.com: Haha... me brave? You should have seen my face after the guy zoomed off. My colleague said I look shell-shocked!

adrian: Yeah, I am glad that it's just the phone and not my purse. I'm working in KL town, in the area around Ampang Park / Citibank. It happened in front of the lunch crowd - there was about 30 - 50 people all around where I was walking. Time was about 1.30pm and yeah, the thieves were really bold.

i can totally relate to what u went thru, altho' i didn't scream the last time it happened to me...

for the next few days, u'd probably be a bit paranoid or feel kind of vulnerable walking outside. i felt that way the last time.. i was always on the lookout, always anxious of ppl walking near me, behind me. in a way, after the experience, i was very much more alert abt my surroundings and not be an 'open target', if u know what i mean...

oops, too cheong hei already.. anyway, your experience serves as a reminder for everyone to be extra careful out there... hugs!

ps: prolly they were indons? *shrugs*

pps: show us yr new hp :D

I can imagine how much you loved your phone... On a brighter note, you're safe and unhurt. That's what's most important. And I don't think the race/ethnicity has got anything to do with this... Don't lah associate the two kind gentlemen with the thieves. We're Malaysians, remember :)

Poor thing... luckily U're not hurt just the phone being snatch... Gip hugs...

Thank God you weren't hurt. Can always get another mobilephone, my dear. Thank God the buggers did not push you down or something, and also that there were passerbys willing to help, although in vain.

Indeed the verse is apt :)

OMG! Firstly be grateful that you are safe. Thats most important. Secondly, be like me and panic wondering if there was any private info or pictures on the phone that might lead the thieves to me! :P Well only because they took my bag with my house keys too. But this is the first time I"ve heard of a phone being snatched out of someone's hands.

*hugs* shall I email you my number too? :D

Poor dear...yeah, it's wonderful to know that God is right there with you through it all. So sorry about what happened, but hope you'll recover from it all soon. *hugs*

oh dear..poor jiejie...hope your phone radiation rating is high so can fry those crooks when they use it...heh heh..;-p *violent smirk*

glad to hear you're OK though..that's what matters. ;-D

on the brighter side, think of the wide array of new phones in the market today when you hunt for a new phone...*saliva drips..*

Oh man, that's terrible! Don't worry, God will bless you with something better.

This kind of crime is the reason why we need change in our country.

oh my oh my! i felt the pain! such an expensive fon... with all the superbang features!

time to settle for a new one perhaps? *hugs*

zewt: Yes, thank God for His protection.

angeles: You know, I feel so paranoid nowadays. Just walking in the shopping mall also makes me nervous, like at anytime the other shoppers will grab at my bag or something...

narrowband: It hurts even more cos' it was a graduation present from my dad! *sniffle*

wennnn: Yeah, lucky not hurt! *hugs wennnn back*

tine: It was rather bold of the thief to do what he did in broad daylight. But at least my faith in Malaysians is somewhat restored by those kind passersby.

parisb: I am lucky that I had downloaded all my pics off my phone recently before my Medan trip and had not loaded anything there! But I'm still racking my brain if there was anything 'left' on the phone. Yesh, please email me your number!

giddy tigress: I hope to recover soon too!

collin: Weh... so violent for a baby leh you... *grin* I'm hoping MY papa will be nice and generous and get me a new phone. Lawl.

adino: I'm certainly hoping so! Yeah, wonder what our police force can do to buck up with the current changes?

kyh: You would! You're a tech nut too, I know. *wink* I'm hoping for a new one...
